Shrimp Marinara
Visual Presentation: 4/5
The dish comes out looking warm and hearty, with firm rotini pasta resting over a pool of deep red marinara. The sauce peeks through the spirals beautifully, giving that “homemade but restaurant-level” appeal. The contrast between the rich tomato color and the shrimp’s light pink tone makes it visually appetizing.
Aroma: 4/5
Even before taking a bite, the aroma is inviting: tomato-forward with hints of garlic and herbs. Full disclosure: I’m allergic to shrimp, so maybe my senses were already on high alert. Still, the scent of the sauce alone could make anyone’s mouth water. A quick reminder, if you’re allergic to shrimp and still decide to try it, make sure to take the proper medication or precautions beforehand.
Texture: 4/5
The rotini is cooked al dente, maintaining a firm bite that pairs nicely with the thick, savory sauce. Each spiral catches just enough of the marinara to deliver balanced flavor in every forkful. The shrimp, from what I could tell before tapping out, looked tender and well-cooked; plump without being rubbery.
Taste: 4/5
Bias aside (again, shrimp allergy in play here), the flavor balance was impressive. The sauce isn’t overly acidic or too sweet; it hits that middle ground of rich tomato flavor with a light seafood note that ties it together. It’s not overpowered by garlic or salt either, which I appreciated.
Overall Impression:
A comforting, well-executed Shrimp Marinara that delivers both in flavor and texture. It feels like something made with care rather than just assembled. For seafood pasta lovers, this is a safe bet, just steer clear if you share my allergy.

Shiitake Mushroom Alfredo
Visual Presentation: 4/5
The creamy Alfredo sauce coats the rotini evenly, creating a golden sheen that’s visually inviting. The scattered bits of shiitake add nice contrast, while the lemon wedge on the side adds a subtle pop of color. It’s simple but elegant, the kind of plating that doesn’t need embellishment to look appetizing.
Aroma: 4/5
There’s an earthy, buttery scent that instantly makes you expect comfort. The shiitake brings a deep umami note, mingling nicely with the creaminess of the sauce. It’s rich but not overwhelming, more like something you’d want to savor slowly.
Texture: 4/5
The pasta holds its structure perfectly, and the sauce clings smoothly without turning gloopy. The mushrooms add a meaty bite that contrasts well with the creamy base, giving the dish a satisfying balance between soft and chewy textures.
Taste: 3.5/5
The flavors are solid and comforting, though it could use just a touch more depth. Still, the combination of cream, cheese, and mushroom earthiness works well for what it is: a straightforward, hearty pasta done right.
Overall Impression:
A good, classic Alfredo with a mushroom twist that’s both cozy and filling. It won’t blow your mind, but it hits the spot when you’re craving something creamy without being too heavy.
